Reader (OCR Speaker) is an Android application developed by Suman Sucharit Das that helps users who have trouble reading small printed material or have difficulty understanding English as non-native speakers. This app is also useful for those who are always on the go and prefer reading news in the same format as a newspaper rather than watching it on a news channel. Additionally, it can convert printed material such as books, road signs, and ads, into audio format for easy listening during travels.
The app allows users to scan text material in Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish using the device camera. Users can crop the images as desired, and the app processes the image and extracts the text using powerful Google Cloud OCR support. The extracted text can be translated into the user's native language and converted into an MP3 file using the efficient Google Text to Speech (TTS) API support. It also includes a media player to work with TTS-processed text and a Material Design library of all MP3 files created from extracted images.
